It’s a date football fans — specifically University of Miami and Washington Redskins fans — will always remember.

At the incredibly young age of 24, fourth-year pro Sean Taylor passed away after being shot in the leg by an intruder inside his home.

His career was tragically cut far too short, as he was well on his way to a Hall of Fame-worthy professional football career.

In his three-plus seasons with the Redskins, the free safety had racked up 299 total tackles, 12 interceptions, 2.0 sacks and eight forced fumbles in 53 starts. He earned Pro Bowl selections in 2006 and 2007, despite his ’07 season being cut short due to his death.

He will forever be remembered as one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the league, and was loved by his family and everyone who stepped foot on the football field with him.
