The NFC East sure isn’t the strongest division in football, and most would say it’s up for grabs. I know my preseason prediction wasn’t the Philadelphia Eagles winning it all.
Now I know it’s only been three games, and there is a lot of football to be played, but the Eagles are looking good behind the play of rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and a solid defense.
Wentz is 66/102 (64.7% completion rate) with 769 yards 5 TDs and zero interceptions. His QB rating is 103.8. Now it was hard to tell what Wentz would do from the preseason because he was hurt in the first game. A lot of people were skeptic, but the Eagles must have known what they have since they traded veteran Sam Bradford and went with the rookie.
The part that is even more surprising than Wentz’s play, is the play of the Eagles defense. Philadelphia is first in the NFL in scoring defense (9.0), fourth in total yards (274.3), second in rush yards (71.0) and eighth in passing yards (203.3). The Eagles are tied for third in the NFL in sacks (10.0), tied for fifth in forced fumbles (4), tied for sixth in pass deflections (20) and second in turnover margin (+6). Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has the defense playing lights out right now.
The question is can they keep playing like this, and will they win the NFC East? Some people think it can be Dallas, or New York, but the Eagles are playing better than both of those teams right now.
So, who do you have winning the East?
