Colts’ Punter Pat McAfee: Best Retirement Announcement Ever?

I think tonight may mark the first time a professional football player has ever announced his retirement on Comedy Central.

Indianapolis Colts’ long-time punter Pat McAfee has had an unusual NFL career, which perhaps is why it’s only fitting he has an unusual retirement announcement.

The 29-year old made an appearance on Barstool Sports’ 30-minute live television show (aired on Comedy Central every night this week live from the Super Bowl in Houston), in order to announce that he’ll not only be retiring from the league after eight years, but that he’ll be joining Barstool Sports’ staff full-time.

No, really, it’s true.

Take a look at the full-length “press conference” below, which features TE Greg Olsen and placekicker Adam Vinatieri asking the tough questions:

And Ian Rapoport made it officially official:

McAfee will have a fully-functioning studio in Indianapolis rather than moving to New York City and joining the Barstool crew at Manhattan headquarters. He gets the best of both worlds: new job with Barstool without leaving his home in Indiana.

But, who will hold Vinatieri’s balls now? That’s the real question.
