Who said there are never any exciting deals at the NFL trade deadline??
In what comes as a bit of a surprise move, the NFL’s top-dog Philadelphia Eagles (7-1) acquire third-year running back Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
While Ajayi, 24, only has 465 yards on 138 carries with zero touchdowns in seven games so far this year, the 6’0″/215-pound running back amassed 1,272 yards and eight touchdowns on his way to a Pro Bowl selection a year ago.
With Darren Sproles out, Jay Ajayi will provide a huge boost to a rushing attack that has already accumulated the fourth-most rushing yards in the league this season (thanks for Carson Wentz’s 203 rushing yards).
LeGarrette Blount has been receiving the bulk of the carries, but having Ajayi in the backfield will take some of the workload off his shoulders and will help Philly form a solid running back duo between the two.
As if this team wasn’t already scary enough, now the up-and-coming Carson Wentz has one more weapon at his disposal.
