Pro Bowl Snub: Wrong AFC West Quarterback Made the Roster

An AFC West quarterback made the 2018 Pro Bowl roster, but it was the wrong one.

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith — not LA’s Philip Rivers — should have joined Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger on the AFC quarterback depth chart.

Rivers is having a great season, no question, but Alex is having an even better one.

The 33-year old veteran is just 262 passing yards shy of his first career 4,000-yard season and has a career-high 25 touchdowns through the air in 14 games this season.

He’s completing passes at a 67.8% clip and has a league-high 105.4 QB rating with an 8-6 record as starter. Just five picks in 466 attempts is pretty incredible.

By the Numbers

Philip Rivers: 14 starts (7-7), 310/498 (62.2%), 3,838 yards, 24 TD, 10 INT, 93.8 QB rating; 0 rushing TD.
Alex Smith: 14 starts (8-6), 316/466 (67.8%), 3,738 yards, 25 TD, 5 INT, 105.4 QB rating; 342 rushing yards, 1 TD.
