Former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Mark Rypien is set to host his annual Mickey Steele Celebrity Texas Hold’em and Golf Tournament in Maryland next week.
The 12th Annual Mickey Steele Celebrity Golf Tournament is currently scheduled for May 20, 2016 at Queenstown Harbor Golf Links. Registration begins at 8:30 and the tournament will officially begin at 10 a.m. Like every other year, there will be a plethora of former Washington Redskins/Nationals/Capitals and Baltimore Orioles/Colts/Ravens players in attendance to support a great cause.
For additional information on both the golf tournament and the Texas Hold’Em tournament the night prior (May 19 at 6 P.M.), you can check out mickeysteele.org.
Mickey Steele grew up in Lanham, Maryland, graduated from DeMatha High School and later attended the University of Maryland. He was the owner of Kettering Liquors.
Mickey loved life and had a great passion for sports. His devotion took him to great sport venues like the World Series, Daytona 500, Final Fours, Super Bowls, Stanley Cup Finals, ACC Tournaments, and an array of college football and basketball games.
Mickey was diagnosed in 2002 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Never once during his two year battle with the disease did he ever ask “Why me?” He fought the disease like he lived his life, with everything he had and always thinking of others.
Leukemia may have cut short Mickey’s life but through his family, friends, and the golf tournament, his legacy will live on in all of us.
