With All-Pro David Johnson lost for the season, and Chris Johnson averaging just 2.5 yards per carry, the Cardinals’ front office made sure people knew they weren’t ready to give up on 2017 just yet.
Arizona acquired veteran running back Adrian Peterson from the Saints for a conditional pick in 2018. Arizona then subsequently released the struggling Chris Johnson.
At age 32, Peterson is obviously not the once-great back he was with Minnesota. But that doesn’t mean the future Hall of Famer can’t provide Arizona with a little bit of production.
Things obviously didn’t work out in New Orleans: 81 yards on 27 carries, good enough for just 3.0 yards per carry in four games. But let’s not just assume he’ll do the same in Arizona. It’s obvious he needed to get away from Sean Payton and the Saints, and 32nd-ranked rushing attack could surely use a boost, no matter how old those legs of Peterson are.
Now, Carson Palmer, Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald can all enjoy their farewell tour together in the desert!
