According to the Associated Press, former Tennessee Titans placekicker Rob Bironas, 36, passed away just after 11 P.M. eastern time on Saturday night following a one-car accident near his home.
Bironas, who played nine seasons with the Titans before being released this off-season, reportedly lost control of his vehicle and hit a line of trees. He was rushed to the hospital and, shortly afterwards, pronounced dead.
In his nine seasons in Tennessee, Bironas played in 144 games and holds numerous franchise records. He’s second all-time in career points in Tennessee franchise history, and had the second-most field goals between 2005 and 2013. He’s currently the seventh-most accurate kicker in NFL history (85.6%), and was 23/34 from 50+ yards throughout his career.
Rest in peace, Mr. Bironas.
