NCAA: 3 Things to Watch in Saturday’s Holy Cross/Lehigh Match-up

November 7, 2014 • John Ulecka • Front Page, Lehigh Football, NCAA

The Lehigh University Mountain Hawks (2-6) squad are set to host the Holy Cross Crusaders (3-6) on Saturday afternoon in a Patriot League football match-up. Both teams have struggled so far this season, but are looking to salvage what is left of their respective 2014 campaigns. Here are three key things to look for in the Holy Cross/Lehigh showdown tomorrow:

3. Holy Cross QB Peter Pujals

Pujals a very dynamic playmaker with both his arms and his legs. He gives the Mountain Hawk defense the tough task of outside containment. Last year they held him to only 269 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception. Lehigh will need the same containment to pull off another victory on Saturday.

2. Lehigh’s Young Defense

Lehigh has struggled early this year on defense with so many young players starting, but they have played well as of late. Holy Cross will be a tough assignment, but if the Mountain Hawks can stay disciplined on the defensive side of things and hold Pujals they will win.

1. Lehigh Aerial Attack: QB Nick Shafnisky and WR Troy Pelletier

Freshman wideout Troy Pelletier racked in a career-high 187 yards last week vs. Georgetown and sophomore Shafnisky tossed for a career-high 345 yards,. What will they do as an encore this weekend? Pelletier is proving to be a viable option for Shafnisky and the offense, and he has continually grown into an offensive weapon as the season has progressed.
