New York Jets: Todd Bowles Names Geno Smith Starter

Remember all the hoopla surrounding Ryan Fitzpatrick’s contract dispute over the off-season?

That all seems a little silly at this point, doesn’t it?

With the New York Jets sitting at 1-5 and in last place in the AFC East, and FitzMagic struggling under center (57 comp. %, 1,441 yards, 5 TD, 11 INT, 63.4 QB rating), head coach Todd Bowles has made the decision to start backup Geno Smith.

Smith, 26, was selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by New York, and made 29 starts in his first two seasons. But since the beginning of the 2015 season, Smith has made zero starts and appeared in just two games, which includes Monday night’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals in which he replaced the benched Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter.

Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, Geno is set to make his first start since December 28, 2014.
