Patriot League Recap: Lehigh Outlasts Colgate, Wins 30-27

Lehigh University’s defense held a Colgate running attack, which averages 188 yards a game, to just 143. The LU pass defense stifled the Colgate Raiders to 176 yards on 9-of-16 passing with a pair of interceptions. Junior LB Matthew Laub was the defensive MVP with 9 tackles, 3 of them for a loss, 2.0 sacks and an interception. He was a disruptive force throughout the entire game.

Lehigh totaled 381 yards of offense with QB Nick Shafnisky completing 86% of his passes on 19-of-22 for 204 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore added 19 carries for 74 yards on the ground. Freshman sensation WR Troy Pelletier (7 catches, 89 yards, TD) kept his stellar play going against the Raider secondary. Seniors Josh Parris and Rich Sodeke wrapped up their last home game with WR Parris catching 6 balls for 84 yards and RB Sodeke running for 59 yards and a touchdown, but his day was highlighted with an 85-yard kick return touchdown.

The Mountain Hawks get their third win of the season to improve to 3-7, setting up the Lehigh-Lafayette game next week at Yankee Stadium to cap off the 2014 campaign.
